Collage movie posters designed in Czechoslovakia. Think of unthinkable. In many cases poster designers did not get the chance to watch the movie before designing the posters, or simply they did feel like it. Selection of the movies has rapidly changed since August 68′ occupation. Artists would go on in their own direction and make even bad movie, look good on the poster. Movie poster designed for Dušan Hanák’s cinematic re-take of Martin Martinček’s photographic journey across rural villages in the northern part of Slovakia. His work was banned by communist authorities, photographs of old wrinkled people were not allowed to be seen, as they weren’t reflecting party’s propaganda correctly. Courageous move by then young director, who’s poetic documentary has confronted censors with negligence and was banned very shortly after the screening.
